Secret hidden section for C of H eyes only

Ok guys we have hit a slight hitch in the development and exhibition of the project - namely that The Lighthouse (the people hosting the exhibition and the projects only funders) have gone into administration and that the AJ were going to arrange an exhibition in London but haven't managed to do so and therefore, at the moment, there is no exhibition.

We need to come up with some alternative ideas for promoting all you excellent work - so I thought it would be a good idea to set up a secret section on the blog where we can all discuss what comes next. So what do you all think?

I'll start things off -

First in my current plan is to write a letter to the head of each of the major parties and to the head of the expense review comittee outlining the competition and presenting to them some of the projects and ideas. This is to fufill the expense claim prize submitted by Jude and Phil for their winning idea.

I am also think it would be good it we all wrote to our local MP's and alerted them to the competition.

i've written to my MP, but i think he hates me - will await reply.

i'll just re-post some suggestions from an email to allister, here, for public discussion:

think a tour of other venues might be a good idea, plus in glasgow may be possible to get vacant shop space (government grants available?). transmission have just moved out of their temporary home next door to our studio and that's currently empty - lick of white paint and that'd be a decent exhibition space. had been meaning to contact someone at the council about it - this seems like ideal opportunity...

or, hire a caravan and go on a tour of obscure small towns, or set it up outside the houses of alan duncan, jacquie smith etc?

ad hoc exhibition in parliament square, flaunting the anti public-gathering laws? (Brian Haw, Mark Leckey...)

make it into a book/publication?

Since Ruth Reed is on board shouldn’t the RIBA dip into their deep pockets and put on the show?

The touring exhibition is a good idea. It might be interesting to step outside normal arts institutions (architecture centres/galleries) and target existing gathering points/hubs - train stations, libraries, post offices etc. instead? Also, many MP's have surgeries in such places. There could also be an opportunity to explore everyday forms of communication/display such as bill-boards, newspaper-booths, post-card stands.

I've asked Ruth Reed if RIBA can help - we shall see what she says. Has anyone noticed the comments on the site over the last few days from people angry about the winners? Lots of emails and comments saying the whole competition is a scam - though I'm not sure what the intention of the scam would have been.

I think the travelling exhibition is a great idea. There's an amazing Norwegian practice called 'Fantastic Norway' who began by travelling around in a big red caravan, taking their ideas to communities, raising funds and getting things built! I, for one, would be happy to drive the Common of Houses bus...

OK - just to give everyone a quick update but I'll write a proper message later on tonight.

STATE OF PLAY
The Lighthouse may not be dead after all but they still can't come through with any funds or exhibition space.

The AJ advised last week that they have been unable to do anything about an exhibition in London.

RIBA have an exhibition space we can use . . . but they want £3k per month.

Cube in Manchester are keen to show a selection of the work and are going to get back to us - possibly as part of Cube Open 2009.

PLAN OF ACTION
It seems everyone here is up for a bit of involvement and most seem interested in some kind of touring exhibition.

The plan therefore is that we create a touring exhibiton box of tricks which will then get passed round all of the entrants who are interested to put on a mini-exhibition of their own where ever they fancy . . . Local MP's office, library, postoffice, shop unit etc.

Having spoken to Jude from Collective Architects - they are going to donate the printing costs and will provide the use of a big laminating machine.

I'll doodle something up and circulate it - in the mean time who's up for this idea?

I'm definitely up for it. I could speak to my old Architecture school and see if I can get an exhibition in there?

I've spoken to one of my old tutors who suggested asking the Electoral Reform group or one of the polling companies to ask for their support? Cash or other promotional materials...

Okdoky - I've spoken to the Electoral Reform Society and will wait to hear back if they can help out in any way.

They are interested in the polling booth/ comments aspect. Hopefully they will be a big help.

If you've not emailed back to say yes or no please do so to assit in speeding up planning the programme of work.
